Dharitri Krishi Parivar, Gadag – one of the early Organic Farmer’s Community (since 1989).
Dharitri is another name for Mother Earth.
Since time immemorial, Dharitri has nourished innumerable lives. Her ways of providing food and shelter for all who live on her are amazing, deep, and yet natural.
Live soil plays a critical role in the growth of plants. Live soil will have innumerable microorganisms, insects, and continuously ploughing earthworms. Diverse flora provide food and shade for these organisms. In nature, all creatures have a symbiotic and harmonious relationship. This forms the basis of our natural or organic farming.
Unfortunately, in recent decades, harmful chemicals in the form of fertilisers, pesticides, fungicides, weedicides, etc. have been rampantly used in the name of the industrial revolution and the green revolution. This has been adversely impacting the natural harmonious system in nature. These harmful chemicals enter our bodies, reducing our immunity and causing deadly health issues. Along with that often our food has been adulterated in spite of stringent laws.
These are serious concerns, and we would need to work intensely on solutions. We need to stop using harmful chemicals. We need to enliven the deteriorating soil. We need to transfer a healthy Earth to our future generations for their healthy lives.
Realising these issues three decades ago, the Dharitri Krishi Parivar was formed in Gadag in 1989. It was a result of cooperation by farmers, researchers, agriculture experts, and scientists in Gadag as a movement to increase awareness among farmers about improving chemical-free food production and keeping the soil alive. It has been working on reaching consumers across the country with chemical-free products and helping farmers get fair prices for their produce.
